1. Introduction

In order to access to the SPS2001 Software from the consoles in PCR, the operators will need new applications.

It is a good opportunity to build a standard User Interface and provide tools for development. Those tools will allow the developers to create their own applications in such a way that the whole set of applications would have a similar 'look and feel'.

2. Definition

2.1. Purpose

Provide access to the SPS 2001 software from the consoles.
Provide tools to build applications (Rapid Application Development).
Provide a tool to create user interface blocks of the same style, which are reusable and independent of the language used by the lower software layers.

2.2. Scope

Access to all the services offered by the SPS2001 software.
Re-building of some basis (and non SPS2001) applications using the same tools.
Fixed displays.
Possibility to configure the user interfaces through configuration files.
Restriction in the user interface blocks possibilities.
Adaptation to software written in C.
Interface personalization according to operation mode.
Establish the number of consoles required.
Keep the current software.

Out of the Scope

Test of the SPS2001 Software.
Replacement of the existing applications.

2.3. Objectives

A Standard Operator Machine Interface able to access the SPS2001 Software.

(1st version in October 2000)

A Tool to build applications having user interfaces of the same style, simple and uniform.
Some basis applications built with that Tool.
User Guide.
List of the actions to be performed on the consoles in PCR.

3. Milestones

Choose the right technology to build easy user interfaces.
Define the Callback Interface with SPS2001.
Simulate the SPS 2001 core software (by SPS2001 team).
List the services provided by SPS 2001 software.
List the U.I. facilities currently used in the control room.
List the U.I. facilities required for SPS 2001.
List the current defects and dislikes.
List of basis applications.
Prototype (June 2000 ?).
First operational version in October 2000.
Training operators and developers.

4. Organisation

The members of the team are Guy Crockford, Stephen Jackson, Mani Jorda Garcia, Giulio Morpurgo and Véronique Paris (project leader).

Other people will be involved at some stages of the project and kept informed.
